My favorite romantic comedy of all time
Hint: it has Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks
Dear Readers,
I have a question for you: What’s your favorite romantic comedy of all time? That one movie you could watch a hundred times and never get tired of? The one that makes you laugh, swoon, and believe in love all over again?
For me, it’s You’ve Got Mail. There’s just something about the sparkling enemies-to-lovers banter between Meg Ryan’s Kathleen Kelly and Tom Hanks’ Joe Fox that gets me every time. The witty dialogue, the slow-burn tension, the way their online connection grows even as they spar in real life—it’s absolute rom-com perfection. Honestly, I’ve always considered it a modern-day Pride and Prejudice retelling! Kathleen and Joe’s dynamic reminds me so much of Elizabeth and Darcy, and let’s be real, if Jane Austen had been around in the age of dial-up internet, she might have written something just like it. Kathleen is even an admirer of Pride and Prejudice, and reads it every year. She recommends it to Joe, and he teases her over her love of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.
Maybe part of the reason You’ve Got Mail resonates with me so much is because I met my own husband online. (Thankfully, there was no corporate bookstore takeover involved in our story!) Twelve years and three adorable kids later, I still believe in the magic of an unexpected connection turning into forever.
So now it’s your turn! Hit reply and tell me: What’s your all-time favorite rom-com? I’d love to hear your picks!
Happy Reading,
Amanda Kai

My books you might enjoy
If you dream of meeting a modern-day Mr. Darcy, you might enjoy the heroes in my stories Love at the Library and Swipe Right for Mr. Darcy.
Mine would be "An Ideal Husband," with Rupert Everett, Cate Blanchette, Julianna Moore, etc.
I absolutely love "You've Got Mail" too, if I could, I would go to New York and see all the places in the film.
"The Princess Bride" is one of my all-time favourite movies too.
